Community Partners: A Q&A with Lindsay Rempel of Storehouse Community Hub Society
Our next Community Partners Q&A feature is with Lindsay Rempel of Cloverdale Community Kitchen (now known as Storehouse Community Hub Society).
Tell us a bit about your organization.
The Cloverdale Community Kitchen (CCK) is a local organization dedicated to addressing food insecurity in the Langley, Surrey, & White Rock communities. CCK aims to provide food and support to individuals and families in need. We have a compassionate and dedicated team working towards creating a hunger-free community. We operate 5 main programs including a Regional Food Bank, Community Meals, Mobile Meals, Christmas Hamper Program and Cold Weather Shelter.
Tell us why support from organizations such as OpenRoad Foundation is important for charities and non-profits.
Many charities and non-profits operate on tight budgets and rely on external funding to carry out their missions. Organizations like the OpenRoad Foundation can provide critical grants or donations that help these charities maintain and expand their operations, especially during challenging times. But in addition to financial backing, support from OpenRoad Foundation can help to enhance the operational, strategic, and collaborative capabilities of charities and non-profits. This kind of holistic support helps ensure that charitable efforts are more sustainable, innovative, and impactful in the long run.
How did our grant help your organization?
The grant we received in 2024 had a profound impact on our organization. We allocated the funds specifically toward our Christmas Hamper Program. In December, we distributed approximately 1,000 Christmas hampers to local families and seniors in need. The support from the OpenRoad Foundation enabled us to fill the hampers with food, toiletries, grocery gift cards, and toys and gifts for both children and seniors. This funding helped us extend our reach within the community, ensuring a special Christmas for individuals who might otherwise have gone without.
What's coming up for your organization?
We are excited to announce that over the past year, we have officially become our own charitable organization (we were previously under the umbrella of Pacific Community Church). Since then, we've been working on a rebranding, and we are thrilled to officially launch as the Storehouse Community Hub Society this May.
Spring and summer are typically slower periods for charitable giving, so we are planning some exciting new fundraising initiatives. We are thrilled to announce the launch of our first annual golf tournament fundraiser, set to take place in September.
Our mobile meals program has been rapidly growing, and we are happy that we have recently added a new delivery route serving clients in north Langley.
What's your favourite part of working with the Cloverdale Community Kitchen?
What I love about working with Cloverdale Community Kitchen is being part of a team that is deeply passionate about building a stronger, healthier community. I love the opportunity to work alongside these people (staff and volunteers alike) to make a positive impact by alleviating food insecurity and supporting families and individuals in their journey to thrive.
